If you’ve been toying around with the idea of RV travel then now is the time to give it a go. Prices on new and used recreation vehicles are down 10% making this a great buyers market. And more people are vacationing closer to home to save money and rediscover America. Here are just some of the reasons why seniors, in particular, enjoy RV travel:

• You can set your own pace. Spend as much or as little time as you want in any given location.
• Enjoy some fresh air and the benefits of spending time outdoors.
• RV travel allows you to bring many of the comforts of home.
• Less expensive than a summer home, but still gives you the option of wintering in a warm climate.
• Many seniors take advantage of certain tax benefits by owning an RV.
• RVs are great for tailgates and other local events.
• Vacationing with the family or just the grandkids is more convenient and budget friendly.
• Pets can travel with you.

Maybe you have already decided that the open road is the life for you. Your next step is finding the right type of recreation vehicle for your travels. Size, price, convenience, and drivability should be taken into account when studying the different models and classes of recreation vehicles. Use the information below to get you started on your search.

Motor Homes

Class A Motor coach – These vehicles range in size from 25 feet up to 45 feet long and may be equipped with slide-out rooms that can expand your living space dramatically. These units are truly like having a home on wheels, providing its owners with a working kitchen, eating area, bedroom, toilet, shower, heating and air. High-end models may be loaded with electronics like a full entertainment system along with leather seating and other upgrades. A Class A motor home sleeps 6-8 people and can set you back anywhere from 80,000 to over 750,000 when purchased new.

Class B Campervan – Also known as a van conversion, these are actually the smallest motor homes measuring around 18 feet long. A van is used as the base for this model with a taller roof allowing for a little extra living space. Electrical outlets, cooking area, bathroom and sleeping accommodations for 2-4 people all fit inside this tiny space. People looking for an economic lead into the RV world can find a good deal on Class B models. Another advantage is maneuverability since this model is no longer than a standard van, many seniors feel more comfortable driving it. A new van conversion can be purchased for as low at $45,000.

Class C Motor home – Also called mini-motor homes, a Class C is simply a smaller version of the Class A motor home. Measuring anywhere from 21 feet long to 31 feet these units drive like a van only much longer. A Class C can sleep just as many as the larger Class A thanks to an additional bed placed above the driver’s compartment. Fully loaded, these mini-motor homes can be just as impressive as the larger models, especially if they come equipped with a slide-out for extra room. A lot of living is squeezed into these units with kitchens, bathrooms, a full bedroom, eating area, heating, air, etc. Prices for a Class C range from $50,000 to around $150,000.
